I think a shoutbox only causes more people to post. when it was more active at NF. Posting was up. People waiting for someone to respond generally go out make a post and message back.

I can see how you can come to that conclusion but most of the shout box posts are back and forth meaningless dribble which in my opinion when that happens in a thread (oh hey bob havent seen you here in a long time, bobs posts hi good to see you how have you been?, etc etc etc) it can kill a fun thread and make people start avoiding the threads because they are constantly hijacked with conversations about day to day pleasantries and off topic one on one bs.
