Default What was happening when you were a fetus thread!

With the recent TV specials on the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing and Woodstock, and me being born in December 1969, it got me thinking... what special things happened in the world when your mother was preggers with you?

Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine (though it wasn't in widespread use for another 3 years)

The first hydrogen bomb was exploded.

Try answering this without looking things up on the internet, what year is this? For purposes of asking this question, I have changed my profile to hide my age.

    Great, so far I've found:

Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster kills 6 astronauts and one teacher; Chernobyl Power Plant Disaster in Russia occurs; "Top Gun" is top grossing film of the year.

How crap are all those things? The only semi-cool thing I found was "Japan releases Nintendo video games to America".

    DISAPPOINT.

Halley's Comet reaches its perihelion, the closest point to the Sun, during its second visit to the solar system in the 20th Century.

People Power Revolution: President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines goes into exile in Hawaii after 20 years of rule; Corazon Aquino becomes the first Filipino woman president, first as an interim president. Salvador Laurel becomes her Vice President.

I don't know when you were born exactly, but those things happened between the Challenger and Chernobyl, and they were all pretty big deals in the news, as I recall.

Toph: 1969, you had a fuckton of mega-cool shit happen when you were a fetus. I wasn't even alive then, and I can name about three or four things without even looking it up.
