    Default One piece of advice....

Someone recently posted a pic of me when I was 18 on another forum in my birthday thread, and it made me realise how much I've changed since then. Physically a little, but more mentally.

So, it made me wonder; what one piece of advice would you give to your 18 yr old self?

Oh, and whoever contributes 'don't eat yellow snow' will be neg repped!!!!!!!

    GO!

I'd also say, "You don't have to get worried about getting married. Cause trust me, solider, at my age, you still ain't getting any".

There are many parts of my life that I could have done better, but I'm so happy now that I wouldn't change a thing, because if I did, I wouldn't appreciate what I have so much, and maybe I wouldn't have gotten what I needed in order to be this happy. And that's one of the reasons that I truly believe that Everything Happens For A Reason!

This thread isn't necessarily about regrets, it's more a 'what do you know now, that you wish you knew then' type of thing...like what do you wish you knew that would have maybe saved a little time/effort/made life easier than working it out for yourself.

E.g. I wish I knew then that trying to make a relationship work when your heart just isn't in it and you no longer want to try means that you should end things! The sooner the better! I know that sounds obvious, but in a couple of relationships I've been too scared to finish things, or have just hoped things would get better when they haven't and won't. I wish I knew back then that life's too short to waste time being with someone you no longer want to be with...that would have saved myself a LOT of heartache!

at 18 I was heading off to college to play football at tech... I think I would have told myself to buy some acl braces for my knees. I';d be Oprah rich in the nfl now as a fat overpaid lineman who plays at 75% enough to keep a contract and a check but not enough to get hurt

I see all of our mistakes as learning experiences... and I think no matter what I told myself, I would still end up making a similar mistake down the road, because I had not yet dealt with the consequences. The best advice I could give myself is to just get my ass in gear sooner in life. And stay away from long distance relationships ... lol.

Oh and credit cards are evil.

I'd tell my 18 year-old self to relax, things are going to be fine.

A variation of this that old farts like myself like to wonder about is what if the current you and the 18 year-old you came face to face? what would each of you think of the other?

The current me would look at the 18 year-old me and think, "cut your hair, clean yourself up a bit and get serious about things."

The 18 year-old me would look at the current me and think, "oh, fuck! married with kids? tuition payments? planning for retirement? too much responsibility. . ."

    Ohh I like that angle!

The current me would look at my 18 yr old self and say "You don't need so much make-up, and your tan looks great but THINK OF YOUR SKIN. Oh, and that skirt's too short and the legwarmers aren't so cute".

The 18 yr old me would think "your hair is nicer, but FUCK you're pale. And oh, your boobies got a little bigger, well done".

Not me, I never had long hair, but the rest... yeah.

I wouldn't tell the 18 year old me anything, trust me, he wouldn't listen :

I would like to trade places with him for a week though, maybe that would help.

I wouldn't tell him anything because then i wouldn't learn all the things i did between now and then. Mistakes are a learning experience. Nothing more. I'd rather learn things first hand - I tend to understand things fuller that way.
