I got my first laptop sometime in '07. An HP that was about 800 bucks.
4 years later it's about ready to go, having screen issues, and has always had issues with the DVD player. Just bought my first mac memorial weekend. MacBook Pro. I love it! Simply amazing!

Only had 3 computers so far, all desktops. Got an Xbox 360 instead of a laptop when I considered buying one.

I do alot of hardcore design work a laptop just wouldn't handle any stuff I do. I run about 6 programs that kill a top of the line hd in about a year and a decent laptop just couldn't handle any of it. no laptops in my future.

Well, 4 years ago 800 was the average price for any laptop that had 4gb memory. It was a pretty good laptop and other than the DVD burner never working and having to send it back right after I got it cause it didn't read dvd's either, I was very happy with it.
Can't believe how expensive Macbooks are and I really can't believe I got one. I've always been about the PC's. This mac has 4gb memory and a 500gb hard drive.
The only things I miss about my PC - transferring pictures from my camera, the PC made a folder for me that was named, for example, 2011-5-21 - 2011-6-2. On my mac, because I want them that way, I need to transfer them manually, make the folder. And if I want my pictures named 001, 002, 003, etc. I need to rename them one by one manually as well. And also, editing pictures in photoshop - on my PC I would use the picture veiwer default thing to look at the pics and go through them an I'd simply right-click > open w/ photoshop. Can't right-click open with the quicklook on a mac. So all that stuff is more complicated for me, and I do a lot of that stuff.
I'm happy to have a DVD player that works. I now have Netflix and MacX dvd ripper. :whistles: I have more free hard drive space than ever, even with all my pics and music on here. I had to keep all that on an external with my PC.
One thing I really love about this is how fast it comes back from sleep. I open the laptop, immediately can put in my password and can immediately start doing stuff. PC was so slow. And I can't believe how crisp the picture is on this thing. I went back on my laptop after using this and couldn't believe how washed out it looked.

Oh, another thing I'm not a fan of. I don't like how Skype looks on this compared to PC, and I don't like that photoshop floats over your desktop and other windows. At least when I have a file opened I can change it... And also, I close a window but it's still running cause you have to go up to the menu and quit the program. (Well, there are other ways to quit it, but you know)
I'm glad Firefox has Personas... just put it on today after 2-3 weeks of being on the mac... the gray was getting so dull. I do miss being able to customize the window colors and things like you can on a PC. And I'm surprised you can't move the menu from the top to the bottom!
I do like having my desktop image cange every 5 seconds though! A few days ago I set it on a folder of Kari Sweets backgrounds!!! mmmmmmm....

    ok, sorry to ramble...

As a fellow Macbook pro user since January 2010, there was a slight adjustment for me as well, but now it's like second nature. The closing out of programs is a big thing to get used to for most people, you actually have to holdclick on the program icon to actually quit it, but you get used to it. But bottom line is you have a computer that will last you a LONG LONG time, providing you take care of it that is.

I don't rip DVD's too often, but when I do I use Handbreak, never heard of MacX dvd ripper. If you have any questions or concerns, lemme know, I can most likely help.
