no offense but this topic is sort of a common sense answer isn't it?
Hey, we love them, omg we love seeing our stuff stolen!
haha, j/k man, but seriously... obviously nobody likes them.

People that pay for content and then give it away have issues. I don't buy gas and give it to random strangers...
Mental illness maybe? Maybe because there is nothing physical to actually hand over to someone else people think it's somehow different?
-Chris
It's a little frusterating, I don't think people realise all the hard work that goes into doing a photoshoot or a video.. then to see it given away for free is a little disheartening.![]()
Unfortunately for those producing the content, the internet is a media that is out of control. Look at all the stuff that is on YouTube. It's not regulated and only removed if someone complains that it's their content. Meanwhile people have already downloaded it and are sending it around.
The honor system sure doesn't work in this case.

I have kind of a mixed feeling about file sharing.
On the one hand, as a photographer I would HATE to see somebody stealing my material and giving it away. Especially when I offer it up on my website and on Flickr for free viewing. But I should be allowed to decide who gets to see what and when, and for how much—as of now, it's all free, but at some point I would like to be able to sell my art, or my services.
On the other hand, I will fully admit that I've downloaded music. Lots of it. And maybe I'm in the minority, but a lot of those downloads have turned into me becoming interested in a band and buying more of their music, or paying to go see them in a show, etc. So in that sense, having free distribution of some stuff does grant free publicity that can increase fan numbers.
The biggest problem are the people who are left: the ones who will download shit for free, and NEVER pay for more. But oddly enough, those are also the people you really have to just ignore, because the fact of the matter is that like music, those people who steal your shit wouldn't have ever paid for it anyway, so it doesn't count as a "lost sale". They simply continue to be dicks and glomp onto whatever free stuff they can.
But it's hardly a cut and dried issue, unfortunately. Of course you want to be paid for your work. And people try to provide free galleries and whatnot for models, but there are always going to be people who reach even further than that. *shrug* What can you do, y'know?

I agree.. its really annoying to see people doing all of that. But.... what is really fucked up is those people who steal pics and then try to past themselves off as that model or... come up with some random name and try to say they are that person.
*ravenmetal nudges Mumz in the ribs... and says... "Kind of brings back memories of DG aka DS aka Not who she said she was aka Loser."Right Mumz?*

By the way, it's not nearly as cut and dried as this. When you buy gas and give it away, you don't have gas. Digital media doesn't work the same: when I send somebody a photoset that I downloaded in a zip file, I still HAVE that zip file on my computer.
Now, if you cloned the gas and then gave it away... would people give you a hard time? Would you be sued for copyright infringement?
golden (07-13-2009)
Really I wouldn't believe anyone who tries to say they never shared anything with anyone, or had anyone share with them. Whether its digital, even like YouTube has a ton of copyright violations, or at least physical goods like gas, food, clothes, etc... If you carpool the gas station doesn't charge you for each person in the car, when you are sharing the gas. If you borrow a friend's clothes instead of paying for your own the store or designer doesn't sue you for it. If you share your fries at McDonald's they don't have you arrested. So its hypocritical I think if people get really pissed off about it.
But that doesn't mean that they shouldn't take measures to stop their own property from being shared either. You lock your doors so people don't just come help themselves to your stuff. Lots of digital security measures that help at least slow down online theft, and also searches to find where people are sharing your stuff. Then you can get it removed from the sites it appears on and is hosted by. I help stop sharing of property of people I know, but then I'll also download music without paying for it all the time. So I'm a hypocrite myself.
If I really like something I'll buy it if I can though, but a lot of the time I'll download just to try something. And I may not ever get around to trying it or I won't like it when I do. I wish everything came with a free trial like the way you can test drive a car. Or you can listen to a lot of songs on the radio, and then if you really like an artists sounds you can go buy the full CD. I would like to see digital content all come free with advertising for the first time you watch it, but then you can buy it to watch it as often as you want without the advertising.
I actually found Misty's site when an online friend linked me to a bunch of cam shows pirated on some forums, and I've been a member of her site ever since. So its not necessarily a bad thing if done on a limited basis. The same way webmasters and models share a few pics out of their sets. If you produce a quality product, it will sell in the end. You just have to hope nobody goes overboard sharing the entire contents of your site, CD, or whatever. I always end up wondering if those people got banned from a site and it turns them malicious enough to do something like that.![]()
It's the same up until the point you give it away. The point I was making is why pay for something and then start handing it out. That part is the same.
As for the coping of it, well, I see it as an agreement when I sign up that the images/vids/etc. that I save are mine, but with the limitation that I can't distribute it, because that part isn't mine.
Know what I'm sayin?
-Chris
the part that I don't understand is that some of these so called "fans" will go and post photos/videos of their fav model and for what reason? So they can get some "thanks" button pushed or can get some stranger saying OH Hai, you rock! Meanwhile, stealing from the girl they claim to be a fan for. Oh sure, they'll justify it by saying they're trying to help but ummm... were you asked to help? No? Ok, just checking.
I know that theft is part of the biz. No matter what industry so that is fine. I don't really care too much if I see one or two things, even ten things... it's the idiots that site rip that piss me off.
I have some decent tools on the server to watch for these clowns and when I catch someone site ripping, I cross reference their ip against the database, find their membership info and ban them fairly quick. I also add their name/info to the blacklist that other webbies have access to so these clowns can't sting others. Lastly, I contact CCbill and have their card blacklisted so they can never join another site with ccbill.
In short, I fuck them back.OOooohhhhh yeah..... you like that baby? LOLOLOL
don't ya love it when the love circulates? I hope that cyber high five is worth being blacklisted.
That part that amazes me is how some people will use the same username in a girl's forum as they have in other trader forums. This is why llcoolj58 is banned here, if you were to google his name you'd see he's publicly traded Peachez videos and other stuff. He posted his user/pass on a trader board for others to site rip, in short, he wasn't really realizing the power of google I guess. Too bad, he seemed like a nice guy. Proves you never know who's nice and who the snake is.
So as a webbie, we watch, we take notes, we compare notes with other webbies and when we catch a snake, make no mistake we blacklist his/her ass.
As for copyrights, that's a fun topic. I go after someone if I have to, but generally a simple DMCA works fine.
LOL James and the "No Porn For You" shirt... lol good job dude ^5 my fav is... contacting ccbill and having them blacklisted haha.

~Mayonnaise colored Benz, I push Miracle Whips~
Always hope if someone does get banned like that there's plenty of evidence beyond just a username, cause anyone could sign up at a forum with a name if its not already taken. I often end up with a variation on golden cause someone else already has the name. But too bad about LLcoolj58, cause appears there was plenty of proof.![]()
LL seemed like an okay guy that made some bad decisions.
Weird, LL and FFG, two unmistakably foot :heart guys, banned in the same week (regrettably, but rightfully so). Chris S. (NJ) better watch his P's and Q's![]()

I like to throw wrenches into arguments. lol
I'll join you in the wrench throwing!
You own yourself, do you not? Do you own what you make then? If you own what you make, then you own what you trade that for, right? (baring agreement that you not share it, of course, as that was part of the trades deal)
And if you own the things you have traded for, then is that stuff not yours? Just because you kick the bucket doesn't mean you still can't give that stuff away to people of your liking before you do.
Will you also defend yourself? Would you not defend what is rightfully yours? If people did neither, we would have to reexamine human nature.
Like a lot of other famous people, they are often wrong in how they came to their conclusions...most of the time they keep it short, and stupid.

i gotta say I love James' stance on getting the motherfuckers shut down. It's a hard job but someone's gotta do it.

I would actually guess it's more of a patent.
